The East River - Upper East Side urban anglers don't need to travel to Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx or Long Island to go fishing. We have good fishing right in our back yard, John Finley Walk Way, along the FDR Drive. One of my favorite spots on the Upper East Side, 15 minute walk from my apartment. It's located just north of Carl Schurz Park and Gracie Mansion.

Noreast.com has excellent discussion forums about fishing in the metropolitan area. East River Stripers is a great thread going on right now with excellent input from the very experienced East River fisherman "jtzannes".

If you live on the Upper East Side the best place to buy bait is the pet store on 116th St. & 1st Ave. They always have a supply of bunker (East River staple), salted & unsalted clams, blood worms and sand worms. They also have a small selection of rigs and sinkers.
